[He doesn't know how he feels about her! Things got super weird between them. And if she's gonna be all dramatic like that all the time, he's not gonna want to be with her. She went a little crazy.]

[XD She's working on her issues. And she recently got a therapist. (And as her creator I can personally promise that she'll tone it down. )]

Clark rolled his eyes at her suggestion, getting to his feet and following her to the couch. He settled on the other end, laying his arm across the back of it in a relaxed pose. "Charades is only fun with more than two people." He leaned his head back and let out a contended sigh before lifting it up again and looking at her. "So how was your solo mission?" he asked.
After a couple days off the radar, Sophia returned to the house in the middle of the night, trying to be quiet as she set the keys down and made her way up the stairs. She didn't want to startle Heath or face him. He'd probably be upset that she'd disappeared with no contact for two days. She wasn't exactly supposed to do that on a mission, but they both needed the space.

When Clark sat across from her, Rylan stretched out so that her legs were resting across his lap. She smiled at his comment, "We could ask the snow banks and trees if they'd like to play, too." She laughed slightly, tilting her head to rest against the side of the couch. At his question, she shrugged. "It was fine. I got a little beat up but everything was case closed in the end." She gave him a small smile, nudging him with her foot. "How was your new partner?"
Heath, having been immensely worried when Sophia didn't return a few days ago, hadn't been sleeping well the past few nights. He'd tried numerous times to call her, and he sent her a few text messages, but she hadn't replied to anything. So when he heard the faint click of the door downstairs closing, he was up in an instant. He met Sophia at the top of the stairs, glasses on, hair mussed, wearing only a pair of dark blue sleeping pants. He stared a her silently for a moment before stepping closer to her. "What the hell is wrong with you, Sophia?" he said lowly, staring at her. "Are you okay? Think you could have picked up the phone and called?"

Clark rested his free hand on her legs as they were set in his lap and shrugged at her question. "She was okay. A little stiff, but then again, so were you in the beginning." He gave her a playful grin, gently patting her shin.
Sophia flinched as a figure appeared at the top of the stairs, feeling like a teenager caught after curfew. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to wake you." She sighed, reaching the top step and coming to a stop. She looked away, running her fingers through her hair. "I just thought it would be good for us to have some time apart. I needed time to think." She lifted her gaze up, unable to look him directly in the eye. "Did Burns send anything over?" she asked, trying to change the subject, although she knew it was a weak attempt.

Rylan rolled her eyes at Clark's statement, breaking into a grin. She sat up and turned herself around so that she was next to him, wrapping her arm around him and cuddling into his chest. "But now I'm a warm, fuzzy teddy bear, right?" she chuckled. She shivered slightly, staring at the dark fire place. "We should probably get a fire going."
Heath folded his arms across his chest, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Really? That was your brilliant idea to fix whatever the hell this is? You disappear and I worry. Great idea. Look, Sophia, I said I love you. You didn't say it back. If you're not ready, that's fine. It'll just be a little awkward. But a little awkwardness is no excuse to just vanish for a few days. Honestly, what the hell were you even thinking?" He shook his head when she tried to change the topic to their mission, "Don't even try to bring up the case right now." He turned around and headed down the hallway, walking into his room and slamming the door.

Clark snorted at her comparison of when they'd started together to know. "Sure," he said, getting to his feet and grabbing some firewood. He lit some paper with a match and cared for the flame until it was strong enough to go on it's on. He returned to the couch, grabbing the blanket off the back of it and pulling it over her. "That should suffice until it gets warmer in here."
Sophia said nothing as Heath went off on her, merely staring at the carpet in front of him. She flinched at the loud bang of the door, her shoulders falling in defeat. It had been immature of her to just run off like that, but he'd scared her. And things had gotten so weird between them. What was she supposed to do? She took a deep breath and climbed the last step, making her way to the master bedroom and flopping onto the bed. This was a mess.

Rylan smiled when Clark got up to start a fire, "And by 'we', I obviously mean 'you'," she chuckled sheepishly. She watched him get a flame going, making room for him to sit down when he came back over. She shifted slightly, sharing the blanket with him and curling against his side. "Thanks, Clark." She fell quiet for a few moments, contented with listening to the crackling and snapping of the flames. "How are your parents?" she asked, breaking the silence.
Heath was usually a calm, collected person, but right then he was just downright angry. He sat down on the edge of his bed, staring at the carpet for a long moment before he got back to his feet and tugged open his door. He headed down the hall to Sophia's room, stopping short in her doorway. "Did you even bother to think about me before you just decided to vanish?" He took a calming breath, realizing that he needed to take it down a notch. "Sophia, I don't know what's going on between us, but maybe...maybe we should take a break. We can't risk endangering each other for this relationship," he said slowly, not liking the way the words tasted.

Clark was a little surprised by her question and he couldn't help a small smile. It was nice of her to remember. "They're good. Still as weird as ever. They went to ComiCon the other day and were pretty upset when I told them I was too busy to go. They should know better now." He grinned and looked down at her. "Not that I've ever lied about being busy when that time of year comes around," he said with a chuckle.
Sophia looked over when Heath appeared in her doorway, sitting up and looking away as he verbally attacked her again. She knew he was upset but she didn't realize how angry he was. He seemed to check himself and she finally lifted her gaze to meet his, her expression blank as he basically broke it off with her. "That's probably for the best," she said flatly, forcing herself to remain unemotional until he left.

Rylan smiled when he began to speak about his parents, tilting her head back to look at him. "Oh, Mr. Kent, that's not nice. You should go with them, at least one more time. They sound like awesome people." She giggled suddenly, leaning her head on his shoulder, "And I can just imagine you in a Superman costume." She nudged him slightly before glancing up at him, "Tell me about your childhood."
Heath blinked at her reply, the way she said it cutting a hole in his heart. He pulled off his glasses and rubbed his eyes, letting out a long sigh. Finally, he put his glasses back on, slowly walking over to sit beside her. "Just...just for a little bit. I..." He took a deep breath, hunching forward and running his hands through his hair. Where had it gone so wrong and why was he so stupid?

Clark groaned at her words. "It's Miller, thank you very much. And I'm sure that's just one of your erotic fantasies," he teased, poking her in the forehead. "Keep that stuff to yourself." He grinned, settling back into the couch. When she asked about his childhood, he looked down at her. "What do you want to know?"
Sophia tried not to break the act as he drew closer, the effort growing harder as he himself seemed to break. She couldn't hold back anymore and she felt a tear slip through the façade, breaking all of her resolve. She quickly reached over and hugged him from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder as she wrapped her arms tightly around his torso. "It's okay," she reassured him. "I understand." After spending so much time away from him, it felt good to touch him despite the situation and how confused they both felt.

Rylan grinned as he teased her, rolling her eyes. "Oh yeah, you bet." She gave him a sly smile, "Keep it to myself? I thought you'd want to do something about it." She laughed at her comment before she cuddled closer to him when he changed the topic. "I don't know. Whatever you feel like sharing. What'd your parents do with you? Did you have pets? Just, what's a normal childhood like?"
[xD Omg I'm dying of the hilarity.]
Heath was a little surprised when Sophia hugged him, enjoying her warm body against his bare skin. He rested his hands on her arms as she spoke, giving them a gentle squeeze. Their conversation hurt, but having her so close helped. He twisted around in her arms, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer to him. He buried his face in the side of her neck, holding her tightly. He didn't want to let her go.

Clark chuckled at her question. "They dressed me up as Superboy and paraded me around. What else? I had a dog and a fish. My dog died right before I left. The fish died right after I got it. I dunno. I went to school and read comics and watched TV. My dad got me into running around with a blanket tied around my neck like a cape. My grandpa taught me how to be a man. He was the one who got me into cars and he took me fishing all the time. Good ol' Pop."
Sophia clung to him as he drew her closer, feeling her tears falling freely now. "I'm sorry," she whispered, pressing her cheek against his neck.

Rylan smiled as she listened to Clark talk about his childhood and his family, her eyes on him the whole time. "That sounds nice. You're lucky to have such a great family." Her smile widened and she turned her eyes to the fire, watching it quietly. "What were holidays like?" she finally asked.
Heath gave her a gently squeeze, his fingers stroking the length of her back. "It's okay, baby, it's okay. I'm sorry, too." He pulled away slightly to gaze at her, reaching up to smudge the tears away from her cheeks. He cupped her face gently, "It'll all be okay." He gave her a small smile before he leaned forward to kiss her gently.

"Oh man," Clark responded to her question, leaning his head back with a huge grin on his face. "Christmas was the biggest holiday to my parents. They had me believing in Santa until I was probably eleven or twelve. I was so gullible. My mom always hosts every big holiday and she and my grandma cook everything from scratch. It's amazing. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the best time of year. There's more food than you could possibly imagine for about three months straight."
Sophia blinked as Heath pulled away, leaning into his touch as he wiped her tears away. She tilted her chin up as he kissed her, sighing softly into the gesture as relief pooled into her. After a moment, she pulled away, rubbing her eyes herself. "I don't want to take a break," she told him, lifting her gaze to meet his.

Rylan watched Clark's expression as he spoke, smiling at the way he lit up. "That sounds awesome," she laughed, tilting her head back and mimicking him. She could just picture the ideal American family, almost as though they were her memories instead of his. "Your family sounds awesome." She smiled and glanced at him before adding, "How often do you get to go see them?"
Heath groaned slightly when she pulled away, opening his eyes to peer at her from behind his glasses. He shook his head at her words. "I don't want to, either," he whispered, wrapping his arms around her middle and pulling her closer. "I just...want to be close to you right now," he murmured with resolve. He leaned forward to press his lips back to hers, pressing her backward until he was hovering over her.

Clark shrugged at her question, closing his eyes against the guilt he suddenly felt. "Not enough. I usually only go back for holidays," he admitted.
Sophia nodded at his words, wrapping her arms around his neck as he pressed his lips to hers. It had been a long time since they'd been like this and she just wanted to forget all of their emotional problems.

Rylan nodded, "But those are the important times. Sadly, in our line of work, we don't get to take vacations all that often. Don't feel bad." She sighed slightly, leaning against him and falling silent.
[^bleh]
The next morning, Heath awoke early, as he had the past few days. The blankets were twisted around them, one wrapped around his waist while the lower half of his leg stuck out from beneath. He let out a long sigh glancing down at Sophia tucked against his side, wrapping his arm tighter around her shoulders as he leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead. Tilting his head back against the pillow, he closed his eyes again, content with staying in bed all day.
[^sure xD]
