Luke smiled to himself upon hearing Isaac's voice. "We're heading out on a mission soon; gathering supplies and stuff. You can come, if you're up to it." He paused, looking the boy over. "If you are, meet us at the gate in twenty minutes." With that, the man turned away and went to gather up the others. After a while, he made a mental list of the ones he needed now- Luna and Claire the Medic. The others had already begun packing supplies and had headed over to the gathering area, where they undoubtedly waited for him now. He walked towards the hospital area, figuring he would find Claire there, and entered. "Seen Claire?" he asked Jacob, one of the less-hurt men. He only pointed to a room a little ways off. "Thanks," he said, walking thata way.
--
When Claire finished, Luna sighed, wincing slightly. "That's not good," she said to herself, but smiled brightly at the little girl. "You've been so very brave, Ryn. When we get back home, I'll give you one of those suckers you're always looking at, 'kay?" she said, giving the girl a small hug. She turned then, about to say something to Claire, when a knock came at the door.
"Claire?" Luke said, clearing his throat a little when he saw that Luna and Ryn were there as well. "Good, both of you are here. If you're willing to come, I've got the go ahead from Yanta; we can leave the compound." He paused, then continued. "As you both know, we are very low on many supplies. Our mission is to go out in teams and gather what we need. I'll be explaining further in a few moments at the gate, if you want to join me." He looked then at Ryn. "So, what's the verdict?" he asked, gesturing to the girls wrist.

Finally able to see some progress, Yanta looks at the door to his hut. "Just a few more." He continues on, holding hope that there was still something for him to do outside of his door. He quickens his pace slightly, wanting to finish this paperwork as quickly as possible while still giving his honest answers to the problems concerned in the different papers. This is the one thing he hated about being the leader of so many people.

Issac just slumped against the doorframe. "Alright, I'll be there," he replied. He quickly got himself together and headed to the gate to wait for the others.
Claire turned when Luke entered the room. "Excellent," she said. "We've been dangerously low on supplies for a while. Hopefully this'll give us some more breathing room. I'll go." When he mentioned Ryn's wrist, she sighed, opting for the quicker route. "Fracture. 2 week cast. She'll be fine after that, though."

"Good," was all Luke said. With that, he turned and left, walking out of the hospital and to the gate, where the others stood waiting. He had suited up before he went to speak with Yanta, so he was already carrying all of the weapons he would need. "Alright. Claire, the Medic, and Luna will be here soon," he said, looking at those around him. "When they arrive, I'll explain our mission."
Luna sighed, watching as Luke left. "Thank you, Claire," she said softly, smiling as she knelt to pick Ryn up. Ryn was obviously getting tired, for which Luna was thankful. "I'm going to take her home- I'll meet you at the gate." With that, she turned and walked home. She tucked Ryn into bed, explaining that she had to stay while Luna and Luke went out. Ryn didn't ask questions, she knew better than that, and, after a song from her makeshift mommy, was asleep. Luna left then, joining the group at the gate.

Claire bid farewell to Claire and Ryn, organizing everything in the room that had been taken out. She changed into something more practical for an outing outside the Colony; grabbed her revolver, her crowbar, and a basic med-kit (which all hung from a belt); and headed to the gate. "I'm here," she announced as she jogged up, nodding to everyone who said a hello. Most people knew her - the amount of people who knew her varied directly with the amount of people who had any kind of injury, minor or major. Which was to say, pretty much everyone. Issac hopped impatiently from foot to foot. It wasn't every day there was an opening for a scouting mission, and being a watchman could get pretty boring at times. He was itching to hear what their mission was and get out there

"Glad to see you," Luke said to Claire as she came jogging towards them, her equipment on her belt. "Now then," he said, turning his attention to the group as a whole. "We're going out to get basic supplies- medicine, food, ammunition, clothing, etc. We also need a few specialized items- baby formula, some woman products, soap, and that sort of thing. I'll be splitting us into teams, so things will be finished sooner. This means, though, that you'll have less cover. Anyone that's uncomfortable with that, leave now." He looked around, satisfied when no one did. "Good. Now, Claire, you, Luna, and Issac will be heading out with Kyle and I. The rest of you can pair up too. Grab anything you think you'll need." He started to turn away before stopping. "And remember- don't waste ammo. If it's a single, and it's an easy one, take it out with a knife or something. Noise attracts them, so stay quiet. Good luck." With that, they began their journey..

Claire fell into step beside Luna, while Isaac stayed closer to Luke and Kyle. It made him feel more manly. It'd been a while since he'd left the Colony, and in truth he was a little nervous... but he was also excited to finally be out. "So, where are we stopping?" he asked, as the walls of his home began to recede into the distance. [eughuhgugh]

Luke glanced over at Isaac as the boy spoke. It was obvious how excited he was, which was kind of funny, since they could all die. "Well, Claire need medicine, we need food and formula, so.." he said, looking around them, "I was thinking a country mart sort of area. We all know the bigger businesses are cleared out, so I thought we should start small." With that, he fell silent, raising a hand to halt the group. A faint shuffling sound had reached his ears, which meant walkers, or a hurt human. The sound grew closer, so he backed them up against a wall, that way they had a better chance of staying hidden. Luke hoped it was just some animal or something, but soon enough, one of the dead came walking past. It's left foot was twisted at an odd angle, as though it had broken or sprained it just before it was bitten. Luke said nothing, praying that everyone else knew enough to stand still and silent.
Kyle had been happy, just walking in the middle of the group. He wasn't really up by Luke and Isaac, but wasn't standing beside the girls, either. He was stuck somewhere in between, and that's how he wanted it. He listened to Luke's explanation, nodding his agreement. He himself had checked out a Wal-Mart a few days back, and all he had found was blood and a few deaders. When Luke raised his hand, Kyle instantly pressed himself back against the wall of the building to their side, his arm reaching out to press Claire back too. He was silent as he closed his eyes, praying it wasn't the Hoard.. When he opened them again, he saw that it was a lone one, and wondered who was going to knife it, or if they were going to leave it be.
Luna wasn't paying much attention to what the boys were talking about. She was lagging behind a little, taking everything she saw in. She didn't remember this place, or anything else for that matter, but enjoyed looking at it. It looked so sad- cars crashed and burnt out, buildings left open, paper and things scattered all over the ground, and blood. It was sad, but in some way beautiful. The silence of the place was wonderful, something she never heard at the compound. She smiled, and was just about to say something when she realized everyone else had backed up against the wall, leaving her alone in the middle of the road where they had been. She realized her mistake and quickly but quietly returned to them, biting her lip. She watched as they did, but seeing it was only one, relaxed. Luke would probably have either Isaac or Claire kill it, just to warm them up or something.
Sure enough, Luke looked back, pointing to both Isaac and Claire, holding out his knife. He was waiting to see which of them would do it.

Yanta finally finished with all the left over paperwork. Standing up from his chair, he stretched and left his little shack of a house. He didn't know what he was to do, since there was no zombies around the colony to kill. After a while of walking in a big circle, he decided to pop in on a couple of the residents around there. He still cared about everyone, but was too busy with his pile of paperwork to stop in and chat.

"Alright, sounds good," Isaac said in response to Luke. But as the sound could be heard, he froze. Only the others pressing against the wall prompted him to move, his breaths short as he listened to the zombie grew closer. It was only one, thank god, but they would still have to take care of it.
Claire was a little disgruntled as Kyle pushed her back against the wall, but she complied nonetheless. He was just looking out for everyone, but he could rest assured she could look after herself. She was about to call out to Luna, who was behind, but she relaxed when the other woman rushed to join them. It was then she turned to Luke, who was holding out a knife to her and Isaac. The younger boy was regarding it thoughtfully - she, however, with one eyebrow raised, gazed at the scene with sight disdain. "I'll do it-" she began, but was cut off. "No, no I'll do it," Isaac interjected. "You're more important, and you've had more experience. This is easy, let me do it." Claire raised both eyebrows now, her gaze on the boy, crossing her arms expectantly. His sloppy argument amused her. "Okay then, Mr. Valliant, go ahead." She gestured at the knife with one hand, and Issac took it. He inhaled one deep breath before launching himself at the zombie, aiming for the temple. He dispatched the monster (somewhat sloppily, as blood now stained his shirt) with a jab to the head and one inhuman screech, quickly followed up by a severed head. With a clearing of the throat and a straightening of the back, Isaac turned back to the group for a response.

Reagan sat quietly rocking Anna Marie as the young girl fell asleep in her arms. Her daughter hadn't slept much through the night. Nobody really had. The creatures outside had been rather noisy and still their loud moans and shuffling feet could be heard through the broken windows above them. A shuffling noise from above caused Reagan to look up and she let out a soft sigh when she saw Danielle and Jack climbing down from the window they used to get in and out. They made their way to one of the shelves they used for supplies and began to empty their backpacks. "Did you find anything?" Eddie said, getting up from his sleeping bag and approaching them. "Not much," Danielle said regretfully. "It's getting harder to find anything good in the supermarkets. It's like the walkers have picked them clean." "There must still be some more left out somewhere. We're running low on food," Lara whined. "Well, if your so hungry, you risk your life out there and actually do some work around here," Danielle snapped at her, stomping off to her corner with a huff. "Calm down everybody. We're just used to the food rations we've had here. We haven't really struggled to find food yet. This is how it's gonna be from now on," Jack said authoritatively. It was true. The food left over in their little CVS had lasted them a long time. But they had finally reached the last of it. Jack and Danielle had gone out in search for more, but they hadn't come back with much. Reagan began to wonder if maybe this was how it would end. They would all starve to death. Her eyes lingered on Jack a moment before dropping to the angelic face nestled into her shoulder. No, Jack wouldn't let them give up. Not when all that mattered to him was still alive. It just made her wonder how long they really could.

Luke watched as Claire and Isaac decided who was going to do it, his face blank though he was grimly amused inside. "Here," he said, handing his knife over to the boy, watching as he went and attacked. The walker died, but a scream had erupted just before it was silenced by the blade. "Come on," Luke said, walking quickly to the right. "If any others are around, they heard that," he said, sighing a little. He didn't want to have to go up against a bunch of them today.. Kyle watched as Isaac disposed of the deader, his blue eyes holding no sign of joy or distaste. He had long since stopped feeling anything about killing the things. He used to hate it, yes, but he had since come to accept that 'it is what it is'. When Luke began walking, Kyle sighed, but followed after him. Luna didn't look. She didn't want to see the person being slaughtered. Sure, they would eat her in a heartbeat, but they used to be.. Well, they used to be just like her! She hated that they had to die, and hated killing them even more. Once it was finished, she made sure that she didn't look at the corpse as she followed the rest of the group. Luke seemed to be hurriedly leading them to the near-by country mart.

"Sorry," Isaac mumbled embarrassedly, giving the knife back to Luke. "I'll do better next time." Darn it, why couldn't he have been a little cleaner? He was rusty with the knife. Watchmen usually only used guns. Claire glanced at the younger boy as they quickly followed their leader. "Yeah, well, there may not always be a 'next time'," she told him. Isaac mumbled something incoherent even though he knew she was right. But somehow, through his disappointment, he noticed something - there was movement coming from the seemingly abandoned CVS. "Hey, Luke!" called out in a stage-whisper. "I think I saw some movement coming from inside there!"

Luke took the knife from Isaac silently, not bothering to comment on the job he'd done. "Don't worry about it. That's why I wanted one of you to get some practice in. I knew you'd be a little rusty," he said, brushing the apologies off. When Claire piped up, Luke looked back at her, frowning. "Next one's yours, then," he said, challenging her a little. He turned back around, leading once more, when the younger boy stopped him. "Where?" Luke asked, turning to look in the direction Isaac had pointed. "Alright," he said, voice authoritative once more, "Isaac, Claire, Luna, you come with me," he said, looking at them in turn, "Kyle, stay out here, watch our backs. Hear fire inside, come in. If something comes out here, you have to tell us," he said, his gaze piercing. Kyle murmured a yessir or something, nodding his head while Luna did. "Alright, lets move in." With that, he turned towards the CV-whatever ((I dunno what that is)), his handgun pointed at the door. As they got closer, he fell silent, reaching out before opening the door quickly, raising his weapon just in case..

[The doors locked and barricaded...but you know what, I'll work with it XP]
The moment the doors swung open, Lara screamed in surprise, drawing everyone else's attention. Reagan's grip on Anna Marie grew tighter as she tensed. Jack reached for his crowbar and turned to face whatever was coming in. He froze when he saw the four people silhoutted in the doorway. "Oh my god!" Maria murmured when she realized they were people, not walkers. There was a long pause as everyone struggled to decide what to do. "Who are you?" Jack asked menacingly, his voice cutting through the silence. "Mommy, you're hurting me," Anna Marie whined against Reagan's grip, her voice small in the stunned silence of the room. Relaxing slightly, Reagan stroked her hair, not taking her eyes off of the strangers as she got to her feet, holding the small girl to her protectively. "Hush, baby," she said softly.

"Ah, thanks," Isaac said, following Luke. He was glad Luke wasn't angry about it, but the man could be a little brusque, leaving Isaac feeling like he was being dismissed like a child. At Luke's prompt, Claire raised an eyebrow. "I wouldn't have it any other way," she shot back. When Luke began giving orders, however, she shut up, following Luke to the store with Isaac close behind. Claire grabbed her crowbar, holding it ready, while Isaac wiped his sweaty hands on his pants and gripped his gun. At the scream, Isaac jumped back; Claire, however, just froze. That was a human scream, she thought. Could there be survivors in there? As voices rang out, the two peered into the seemingly abandoned CVS, one with curiosity, the other with apprehension. They were shocked to find not one, but five (?) survivors staring back at them with mixed expressions. They glanced over at Luke and waited for his next move, grips tightening on their weapons.

((Whoops, sorry.. ^^"))
Luke had moved the junk out of the way of the door and had, in one fluid motion, kicked the door hard enough that it opened a little, ignoring the pain that shot up his leg. ((More believable? I don't even know what a CVS is. XD)) Grunting, Luke had peered into the darkness, his gun pointed inside at whatever was waiting, just in case. When a scream sounded, though, he lowered it a little- he too knew that to be a human scream, not the bloodcurdling cry of a walker. He was silent a moment, before he finally started to speak, only to be cut off by a man's voice. "Lucas. Lucas Daniels," he called inside, his voice guarded. "Who are you?" he called back, his ears having heard at least four people, probably five. He shifted a little, letting light inside. Sure enough, there were five survivors- three women, one man, and a small girl-child. He was debating about what to do when Luna stepped forward.
"We aren't going to hurt any of you," she said, smiling as she stepped a little closer and inside, her hands held up in a non-threatening way. "We have food and shelter, a whole town of survivors," she assured them, stopping a few feet away lest she fall victim to the mans crowbar. "I'm Luna," she told them, her voice soft. "That's Luke, Isaac, and Claire," she said, nodding to the people behind her. "Then there's Kyle outside, taking guard," she said, frowning a little. He would have heard the scream and would probably arrive any moment. Shuffling behind her told her she was right, that he had arrived. When her eyes fell on the child, her eyes softened. "Hi there," she said quietly, waving slightly. "You look about the same age as Ryn," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else. Shaking herself a little, she straightened, returning her attention to the group as a whole. "You can come with us, if you'd like," she told them proudly. She couldn't see Kyle roll his eyes at her, or hear Luke's sigh.

Jack didn't let his guard down an inch when the man in the doorway responded. "Jack McDowell," he replied, his eyes skimming the others. When the girl with them began to walk forward he glanced at Gary and Eddie, who had both been out of sight with whatever weapon they could get their hands on. "Gary, Eddie, stand down." The older men obeyed and revealed themselves to the others. Gary walked over to his wife and laid a hand on her shoulder, pulling her protectively closer. Danielle came out of her corner to get a closer look at the new arrivals after the woman spoke of food and shelter. "A whole town?" she asked, glancing at Jack, who's blue eyes were guarded as he thought over the proposal. He glanced between the men in the group, noticing their negative reactions. "I'm not so sure your friends want us coming with you," he observed. "Jack," Reagan warned softly, stepping forward slightly. Thinking about their daughter, she knew that a town with armed people like this would be much safer than their small little fort. Besides, they were running so low on supplies, it was about time they moved on. "I wouldn't trust 'em as far as I could throw 'em," Eddie said, crossing his arms and peering at the scouts. "Don't think I could toss y'all very far at all." From where she cowered silently in her sleeping bag, Lara suddenly spoke up, pointing her finger behind the new group in wide-eyed fear. "Biters!" Sure enough, slowly ambling their way toward the source of the recent scream were a small band of walkers, picking up their pace once they saw the buffet layed out before them.

Claire observed the situation with a raised eyebrow, giving a little nod as her name was mentioned. (Isaac waved timidly beside her.) As far as she was concerned, this store held valuable supplies, however few there were. She wasn't going to get the medicine held inside if these people were there, and they were armed and ready to fight. Plus there were a few strong, experienced people in the group which would be valuable in dealing with zombies. "Luke-" she started, about to offer him her counsel, but was cut off by the girl's scream. She whipped around and pulled out her crowbar, glancing over at their leader for direction. It looked like they wouldn't get out of this one without a fight.

Luke didn't say anything as Luna spoke, his mouth a grim line. He wasn't sure that this Jack guy would be peaceful- he was pretty hostile already, after all. Luke wasn't willing to risk his group or the town to save some people that didn't even want saving. The women and the kid could come, of course, but the men? The men could do whatever the hell they wanted. He was just about to say something when one of the girls pointed out the approaching walkers, making him sigh. And here he had thought this would be a smooth mission. "Right," he, said, talking to his team, "Don't let them inside," he said. With a glance back inside, Luke turned and walked out, putting himself between the approaching deadheads and the civilians back in the CVS ((which I learned is like a Walgreen's)). Raising a handgun, he held it at the ready, taking a quick count of how many were coming. About nine. "Claire, Isaac," he said, calling to them in a quiet yet powerful voice. "There are nine. If we fire, we could attract the Hoard. If we don't.." he trailed off for a moment before looking back at them for a second, "Think we could take them out quietly, or would it be too much?" He wasn't testing them, he was honestly not sure. He knew that he could take care of some, but he would definitely need help from the others if they were going to get them all. It just wasn't within his abilities to knife eight walkers in one go. "It's fine if we need to shoot- we'll just need to move fast," he said, his voice solemn. He still didn't know if the men and women inside were going to join them at the city, and though he didn't want to leave them, he wasn't going to waste time arguing. Kyle joined Luke soon after he walked outside, standing at the older mans side, facing the approaching zombies uncertainly. At first, he didn't think there were too many- maybe four or five- but more and more kept coming until nine stood in the distance, making their way to the waiting people. "I.." the boy started, wanting to offer up his own thoughts on the matter, but trailed off having thought better of it. He didn't want to be responsible for that kind of thing- if they shot at the zombies like he thought they should, and someone died, he would have that on his hands for the rest of his life and then some. Then again, he thought, if they tried to kill them all with knives and stuff, someone could get bit, which would also suck. By this time, he had come full circle and still didn't have a good answer- he did, however, have a headache. "It's up to you guys," he said quietly, shaking his head. They didn't have much more time to decide, though..
