As role players, we all like to illustrate our characters with images to provide a better mental picture for others and ourselves. And although this is something that is completely okay and often fun and useful, there are also issues that come along with the use of photos. Most photographers, including myself, hate when people use their photos without giving credit where credit is due. Being an admin, I think it's my job to keep my role players informed and participating in legal activities. And so a new rule is born. If you use an image, please cite the source it came from. We all know how to do it, we've been citing sources since our elementary school years. It doesn't have to be anything big or fancy either. Just make sure you give credit to the artist. Now, if you go through the trouble of getting the artist's permission to use their work and emailing me this written permission, then of course you don't have to cite it, but that's a lot of work compared to copy and pasting a website URL.
This rule goes into effect immediately. All images must be cited, even if it's a drawing or other two dimensional works of art. That goes for images you got off of Google as well. If you've never noticed it before, Google puts a little disclaimer on their image search that says that the image may be copyrighted, so cite it just in case. Of course, your own art is exempt from this, although I wouldn't recommend putting images of yourself or friends on the internet.
Confused as to how to cite a source? Let me help.
